* We have received reports that the combined chemical and oil tanker XING TONG KAI MING (IMO: 9988059) collided with the combined chemical and oil tanker JIU LI 669 whilst in position east of the Yangtze River estuary, China, on 3 September 2026.
* JIU LI 669 (IMO: 9955193) is a 2022-built combined chemical and oil tanker with a gross tonnage of 10,743. The vessel was proceeding from Zhangjiagang to Shanghai, China, and was reportedly laden with up to 17,762 litres of oil product at the time of the incident.
* It is reported that XING TONG KAI MING sustained damage in the vicinity of the lifeboat area on the accommodation superstructure, whilst JIU LI 669 sustained a gash of more than one metre in its bulbous bow above the waterline as a result of the collision.
* We understand that XING TONG KAI MING departed Taixing and has since completed discharge operations. The vessel is presently anchored off Hengsha. Likewise, JIU LI 669 has completed discharge operations and is also anchored in the Hengsha anchorage area. It appears that both vessels remain in close proximity, possibly pending further inspections, surveys, and/or repairs arising from the casualty.
* It is possible that GA and associated Recovery issues may arise as a result of this incident.
* We therefore recommend that you contact us urgently if you are concerned with any cargo on board either vessel so that we can immediately start taking steps to protect your interests.
